This was wholesome. I mean the topic and settings aren't funny at all, you can draw the parallels. But SxF managed to kind of balance the comedy part and not dig too deep into the true drama of the subject.
It has such a great exploration of the "found family" trope. Where the two people (because Anya is the happiest to have a home) become part of this family for a goal. Just watch them gaslight each other when things are weird for sure, but they let it slide like it's nto big deal. They even constantly mentioned that this family is a sham family. And yet they still follow heart more than cold logic. Basically the entire main cast lives with secrets they must protect, except for Anya.. no wait, she does protect her secret as a telepath. But compared to others it's nothing.
But I was surprised how heartfelt and wholesome it was.
The only thing is it gets a bit old with time. We have a main goal of getting Anya in this prestigious school because only in this way we can organically contact a certain person, but all the side quests are basically have the same pattern of being quite ridiculous and then we somehow make it work.
Anya mainly saves the day to me, because she is a kid with a great storyline a lot of time spent on her and her antics. She is the unexpected element in this one. Also the fact that animation is quite cute and her seiyuu does a fabulous job helps a lot.
