Shen Yi is reborn. Before that he realizes that he's just a tool father for a future villain in a novel. He had a burden full of disappointments, when he thought his family was almost perfect, his family went through big changes and went bankrupt, which broke the family apart. He was left with a child who was not his biological son, but he treated him tenderly and loved him sincerely, before the kid chose new, wealthier adoptive parents for himself and left Shen Yi without looking back. His love life had a break due to family troubles, but he was reunited with a man he had his first relationship years later, but now their social status was too far apart and it did not look like a relationship being rekindled, but more like friends with benefits. Shen Yi was insecure in his heart and asked for a break-up. The next thing he knows is that he traveled back in time after a car accident. And the moment is just before he will be left with the child.
Onto my opinion with spoilers:
First of all I really liked it. This novel was short, it dived more into feelings, but it handled things on both sides really well, which I rarely anticipate from rebirth novels. Although beginning was pretty much like other novels with "let's stay away from everyone who brought me troubles".
Basically at first Shen Yi had no idea that there were many misunderstandings between him and Fu Xinci that were left in his previous life, which were a result of his own personal traits and his family situation. Many things he couldn't bring uo to discuss and what happened basically deepened the misunderstanding and left him with impression that nothing is permanent and no true love exists in this world. To understand his distrust we should mention (spoilers) his mother. Only in the later part of the novel Shen Yi explains himself that during the most tense period and hurtful period when his family went bankrupt and his father was the busiest and was hit the hardest, his mother already found herself a new home and basically hooked up with a new man while the world of her family was crashing down. It left him with a deep impression because the image of his parents' almost perfect love was too deep and it became a false dream. His mother continued to be a wealthy wife and never contacted her son again, while his father moved to a remote place and lived with a new wife who actually supported him during his hardest period. Shen Yi had to go through changes and had to leave, but because the relationship between him and Fu Xinci never had a decent name and love words were never spoken he left just like that. Later after being reunited it was almost the same underground relationship and again no one talked about love or giving Shen Yi a name, so he continued to think that it's the same as before. Especially when he knew that FXC's mother was really against the two of them. Because Shen Yi wasn't so close to knowing FXC's life and friends, he misunderstood FXC and asked for a break-up, in the end he traveled back in time. because his feelings were so vivid and his experience had left deep marks, he felt that he doesn't want to see FXC again and never wants to become a tool father for a child who sees money.
Trajectory of this life changed accordingly. Shen Yi was dragged to participate in the variety show. At the beginning he felt that he will act accordingly, to perfunct the entire process and did not cooperate with Ji Mian. On the contrary it was Ji Mian who slowly changed and instead of money he couldn't think of a world where Shen Yi wouldn't be his father.
Shen Yi also started to uncover some important truths about FXC, since he met him again. These things were missed before because of his outlook. So most of the novel is also an emotional journey, since Shen Yi came to realize that he has problems too. He likes to escape from the problems, he doesn't want to be hurt in a relationship, he is really insecure and couldn't simply tell his heart to other person. Only with continuous courtship from FXC his views changed and things changed for the better.
Although there are novels where the same pair in the past live will be together in this life, but I still find that feelings were handled quite nicely. And that MC realized that his escape is not a way to handle the relationship, that partially their relationship failed, because how poorly he handled it.
His relationship with Ji Mian also changed, this time because Ji Mian changed himself. Although not much was said about how he treated him in previous life, but there was no such situation as where Shen Yi didn't buy the crying rhethoric of Ji Mian, they also spent qualitative time on the show among other parents and children (although sometimes the show felt empty but whatever). When Ji Mian found his true originins and Shen Yi was leaving he realized that what he cares about is not money, but his relationship with Shen Yi. I think mainly things changed because Ji Mian now was not indulged when he pretended and Ji Mian was acting since he was 4 and Shen Yi in previous life had no idea. In the last life it was late for Ji Mian to regret his choice when he left with new wealthier parents, he had no idea that it was simply a trap that changed his future. Partially I think it was a right choice for Ji Mian to be shown having memories of the last life when he arrived at Shen Yi's, but later his memories and himself disappeared, leaving only a blank Ji Mian who had same goals as before, because it showed that he felt that he wasn't worthy to stay by Shen Yi's side, although regretful, but he knew he let Shen Yi down a lot.
In general I liked how the whole novel turned out, the problems of the past weren't stacked on only ML's head as usual (basically all novels I read MC is always described as a victim of the relationship, as if they never contributed to the problems), those problems were also slowly solved, both parties were more open and things turned out well. Can be put into a good category.
