You know when you have The Book in your collection. For me "Monday begins on Saturday" is that beloved book that I can re-read many times and it's still full of wonder. It's the world where technology and magic live together in a Research Institute. I think this is the kindest book as well, it has no conflicts, no huge stakes (no there are), but you still feel like nothing bad can happen in this book, only goodness. It is also stays very entertaining. And this book is old, so I find it fascinating that connection between fairy tales and modern world is done in such a way. Our main character makes a stop at a small town, it's a point of randevous, because he has no place to leave he is recommended to stay the night at a fantastic place (izba with chicken legs, which now is a museum and supposed to be Baba Yaga is the caretaker, all magic items are exhibit items). He gets fascinated by these wonders and in the end stays in this town and joins the Research Institute (very long title that makes sense in original language) where here and there they research the use of magic items. It's pretty interesting, because some things are explained from the point of physics etc. The story is divided into several short parts, each is about something big (like one is about consummerism and happiness, which resulted into creating almost a balck-hole-type creature or there is a mystery about Institute's director, who is two people and one person at the same time). I always found it good-natured and at times a bit metaphorical.
