[Chinese BL novel] 我妻筝筝 by 观山雪 / My wife ZhengZheng

Summary: Qin Zheng met Wen Jinque at the lowest point of his life. Being betrayed by his family he was now bound to bed after an accident. And it was Wen Jinque who asked him if he wanted to take the oxygen tube out, he will do it, since he's a certified mentally ill person.
What followed were years of care and love.
But who knows if it was someone's will, ZhengZheng woke up and regressed many years prior, standing at engagement party he saw the young Wen Jinque and was unable to take his eyes off again.

It's a pretty short and quite sweet novel, mostly concentrating on feelings than drama.
What I liked about it is the fact that the previous life is not one full of regrets. He may had some, but with time and care from Wen Jinque his temperament changed. And their love, which was fully platonic, they even never confessed to each other I suppose, never was a regret point. Qin Zheng described it as them transcending the simple word of love. They may have never been physical, not because they never wanted it, but because Wen Jinque respected Qin Zheng a lot. For them their relationship was enough, their companionship was enough. It's hard to describe better.
So even in this life if they can finally hug and kiss like normal people, it doesn't mean that love of the past life wasn't complete, to them it may have been more significant.

The official synopsis made me feel like there'd be more drama, but there wasn't. You collect bits and pieces together and they are really not significant anymore. First of all because Qin Zheng lived through this and came to terms with everything. Spoilers. He knew the uncle who adopted him was at fault when it came to his parent's death. This uncle also made it look like Qin Zheng was completely wrong and he was in the right, since he's such a good person who took care of Qin Zheng for years, but ended up with such accusations. Then was Qin Zheng's accident after the fact and everyone turning away from him with only Wen Jinque left, whom he met by accident. Wen Jinque was at the helm of his family, but was given drugs when he was a kid, basic evil stepmother situation. So he suffered from time to time, but it became better when they came together.
In this life it may have felt like insta-love, but these people had decades of love and Wen Jinque felt like this is how things supposed to be (explained later). So they organically came together, while in the eyes of others it seemed really strange how fast these two hooked up.
Now Qin Zheng didn't care for exposing his uncle in front of others, which was his initial goal in past life, he just wanted to have a face off and tell him face to face how rotten this person is.
The only thing is that throughout the novel, because there is so much emphasis on the relationship it doesn't really dwell on many things, I felt brainwashed because of how it was written when Qin Zheng expressed his indifference and he acted that way, thus we never feel the thrill or need for any type of revenge. Because he succeeded in his past life.
Same with other members of the family and the guy he liked in his last life, but who eventually married a wealthy daughter. This guy was out of the picture pretty soon I'd say and he didn't dwell.
As for the family, he knew that his uncle was at fault, his aunt may have known those things, but she stayed silent with her obvious bliss of "no one is talking about it, then I won't too". His "brother" was too bound by family bonds, that is why this image of love and care from his father towards his adopted son prevented him from seeing the truth. His sister also did not believe in this, because she lived in love and care, but actually had a pretty self-centered personality and was willful. The illusion created by adults worked against Qin Zheng. This is why in this life he only hinted at some things, but later continued to pretend to be a loving family, he had all the patience, the only thing that truly happened is the inevitable distance. Even from his sister.

In general, feelings-wise this was great. A bit unexpected take, since many rebirth novels always have not only some tragic pasts but unresolved vengeance and when it comes to love it's always a regret in love or something similar. This is the case when a character fully shows that he lived through many heartaches, but eventually became calm as a deep sea, he could let go of these things, so he came to this new life changed. There was no need for some hardcore revenge, he paid things back, simply because they were inevitable.
And this is what made it stand out, the love that was quite complete but had a chance to continue, the change in character due to years that shaped Qin Zheng. Beautiful feelings.

RATE: 4,5/5.
